surface ships usually actually have quite an easier time aiming torpedoes the swivel makes it nice and easy to aim and the onboard surface torpedo aimer is usually quite accurate if the enemy ships suffer from a bad case of straighlinius they will get hit Having a swivel makes it easier compared to setting torpedo gyro for sure, but you still need accurate bearing, range and speed data to get an effective firing solution. It makes total sense for DD captains to refrain or taking a long time to decide to make those mid-long range launches. Further, I'd argue in close range(1-2000 yards) against a evading target, all the smoke, fire, rapidly changing course etc does not make things any easier. That said, when we get down to the in your face range, I do agree most guys should just decide to dump all the fish in the water in the general direction and expect some hits. Although its possible to expect the captain exercising some fire discipline and choose the hold torpedos against larger targets if the close enemy is a DD or something. But If they are in a BB's face then yes, they should absolutely at least attempt to launch, even if the amount of fire they are no doubt under may make them to make erratic shots. The AI is a little reserved in this scenario, but I think its mostly when tube counts a low. In the mid-late 20s my DD captain have no problem with give anything that get near them a mouthful, to the point I almost wish they don't waste too many shots on DDs. On the otherhand I do agree that early 2-4 tube dds are way too conservative(Somehow my Bs likes to launch torps more than my DDs) it depends alot on the ship if it has a good torpedo aiming unit which is reliable and they have a solution they are gonna dump atleast a set of fish if they have a worse torpedo aimer then they will likely hold onto them a bit the problem is the fish are generally quite explosive and you dont want them hit on the deck especially japanese destroyers most of them had a primary set in the launchers and then a reload for those launchers which meant the japanese cruisers and destroyers threw fish the first chance they got and went on to reload the second set also because japanese torpedoes are notoriously explosive so the japanese liked to get rid of them as fast as possible

After 2 weeks, I have to say - sorry, this game is really unplayble and its total pain to try it. Not worth any money now. Constant AI advantage, BS happening all the time... Now its the worst of naval strategy games I have installed.

I may just zip my save folder and post it here for everyone to see. I play v1.04, and there are several BS happening, most notably AI DP guns from the year 1906 - so when my aviation started, it already faced heavy AA guns. Then my (german) ships have blown up after Turret (T) hit by gun that was far from able to penetrate the armor. My newest ships almost never appeared in the battle, but enemy could always use his newest ships and kept the older ones in ports. One constant BS: invalid designs, AI fleets are full of invalid designs. DP guns without technology, 34 000 ton CVLs, CLs with 4 centreline turrets before 1910 (also with above water torpedo launchers without relevant technology), white peace with 0 or 1 unrest in players nation and with MASIVE VP advantage, etc...

Maybe, underneath the salty words, there's a legitimate grievance.
I don't see what's productive about telling someone to gtfo.

I dont know where are you from and I dont care, but Im from Czech Republic, and 30 bucks are a lot of money here. I had to save money for whole month to have enough to buy it without not having anything to eat, and now I see my money went into something that is on the edge of plain joke. A huge load of RNG that plays itself, decides for itself, fights itself, and sometimes kicks the player just to remind him what he bought...

OK. I jest slightly. These one-man dev games can go off to a slow start and the thing will be riddled with bugs. It's not like a big Microsoft-owned game studio but just one guy furiously running around fixing leaks. I wasn't here for the release of RTW, but I imagine it was the same. Your problems are ones that everyone has had and they WILL get fixed. Just give it a couple of patches and it will be better. I know that it might be a massive disappointment for $30 at the moment but it will improve. I may not know your exact situation but I wouldn't like to think I wasted the money either. Part of the fun of playing these games from the start is to play-test all the features. Tell the devs what's wrong and how to make it better. The guys at NWS are all understanding and realise that it won't be perfect first time. I urge you not to give up on RTW 2 just after a few early playthroughs. Experiment and find things you like. Any bugs will get fixed eventually. Try to view this stage as you helping a small team improve their game to make it the best it can be. This forum community exists for that and will, I'm certain, help you with any problems you have. Chin up! And don't give up hope yet!

Ok...everyone here keep it civil, and stop with the personal attacks - those are a violation of our Terms of Service, not to mention they can turn a decent forum into a circus.
To the OP...we always look at what players report about the game, and if we find that we can improve an aspect that needs improvement, we will try our best to do so.

Joking apart, I agree with you on some of the issues you have raised. The game is buggy as hell but I don't think it's unplayable. I have faith that in the fullness of time most of the current annoyances will be patched out.

That's an enthusiastic crowd forming a parade to tell you that you are OK!
I'll just say that it is a small operation working on a big subject. RtW1 was certainly not perfect but the things it got right were amazing. Still the best naval AI I've ever gamed against, and frankly I waited 50 years for this sort of ship-design gameplay.
I see the glass as mostly full; if you see it as mostly empty then I feel for you. I think the advice to wait a bit and try it again is sound.

Going to be honest I have noticed some things which rather tick me off in terms of balance, or at least from what I can tell is happening in the game.
-The good old RTW1 bug/imbalance/etc of enemy ships actually firing torpedoes while mine never do, despite having tech advantages, better ships, more launchers, training, and everything else
-Enemies seemingly appearing in higher numbers in battles despite my own forces greatly exceeding theirs, I fail to believe that out of an entire fleet, my naval experts sent 4 destroyers against light cruisers and battleships on a convoy raid, and when defending our coasts they spare 1 old battleship or 2 against their newest battlecruisers.
-Enemies can just 'lol nope' out of a several year war and give you nothing for it, meaning either exit and re-load the last save, or enjoy that entire run basically being economically ruined.
-Enemies seemingly never have engine issues, and can take 10 times more hits than you can before slowing down. I refuse to believe that a single hit downs my light cruisers by 3+ knots, while battleship shells are ignored by theirs.
-Enemy minefields seemingly able to take out a ship or two if you get near their ports/guns, but enemies never, and I mean never. AS IN, NEVER ONCE SEEN IN THE FOUR YEARS OF PLAYING RTW1 AND THIS YEAR PLAYING RTW2. Hit a mine. EVER.
The only saving grace in terms of player vs AI balance, is that they cannot use carriers at all, they suck so god damned badly. Once you got a task force of 4 modern carriers you win every battle, no exceptions.
